The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast is the primary event hosted by the local fraternal chapter to generate support for the scholarship fund. Realizing the disparity in educational attainment, it is the express goal of the Chapter to award scholarships to deserving minority male students, assisting them in their efforts to access post-secondary educational opportunities.
Background
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast will hosts its 29th event in 2021. The Breakfast began as an effort on the part of the local fraternal chapter to raise necessary funds supporting scholarships for deserving young men in the Toledo area. Over the 27-year history, the Fraternity has awarded over $170,000 in scholarships. Support for these funds have come from various entities, but also from the hard work and generosity of the members of this fraternity. Recipients of the scholarships have gone on to become productive contributors to our local community and to communities around the country.
The Breakfast has seen attendance grow over the past 5 years to sell-out attendance (more than 500 persons). Coupled with bringing nationally renowned speakers to Toledo, the Breakfast has become the premiere event of the weekend leading up to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
